Inoculated with selected yeast strains from the Rhone, France. Primary fermentation in open fermenters with manual punch downs @ 22-28 degrees Celsius for 3 weeks. Pressed directly to 225L French Oak (10% new) where Malolactic fermentation completed naturally. 16 months barrel matured.

A velvety Syrah with a black currant, garrigue and mocha aromas, and ripe fruit and Smoky flavours on the palate. The delicate sensation of minerality present in Baleia?s food-driven wines is an expression of the natural salts found in the soils and prepares the palate beautifully. Best enjoyed with a traditional indigenous curry or delicately spiced Karoo lamb.
